I also attended one of those screenings of HTFor that afternoon, it felt like 1963 all over again. Barring a miracle, then 4K is sorely needed. But that’s the pure way to see this wonderful, historic classic, as I saw it at the Capri in Dallas in 1963. I’d pray someone could rescue the theater, but post-Covid economy doesn’t look amenable to that. Last email update from the theater was for refunds of any gift cards. It was so thrilling nobody complained and few, if any, gave up and left. and they flew it to Seattle, had a representative rush it from the airport to the theater, and the film finished about 1:45am. So they had to quickly order a replacement from L.A. It and This is Cinerama were, as you’d imagine, spectacular - they also showed a new 70mm print of Lawrence of Arabia, and that did have a problem: the digital audio disc to accompany the second part after Intermission arrived broken. The Seattle Cinerama did have a Cinerama Film Festival in the mid-2000s where they showed HTI heard there were some projector breakdowns at midweek screenings, so I was lucky. Question of the page (though I did look back a few): What's the skinny on a 4K version? So I've never seen the smilebox edition (or cinerama version, though I'm not sure if the Seattle Cinerama ever showed that). Our local Cinerama (Seattle) has been closed awhile and today, news came out that it may be done for good.
